Keynote speaker and host Lucas De Man saw a lot of standard powerpoints, guest speakers who couldn’t communicate their story júst right and researchers that were so specialized that they could only share their thoughts on a very specific, small part. That’s when the idea of the fictional experts came to mind.
What if we were to combine our knowledge and research into one well composed, thrilling story and have professional storytellers share it? What if we work together with graphic designers and artist? With this method we have thus far created 5 keynote speakers that are bolder, that can make sense of a research and can help initiate different conversations, with more dialogue and a deeper understanding.
Merely our character is fictional, the content is completely true. Everything we say is thoroughly researched and is possible. Now, or within the coming 5 years.
We tell stories with real facts about what is happening and what is coming, now and the next 5 years, performed by actors. This allows us to say more and make the audience feel more than when real speakers do their own stories. In a fictional expert we are able to combine multiple views, scientists and researches.
Our main goal with these experts is opening up a practical, ethical dialogue with our audience. We are not against technology or new ideas. On the contrary. But we are against the lack of an ethical debate about the borders and frames in which we want to see these new developments. Thanks to the fictional experts we can cut to the chase fast. we don’t sell anything and don’t have any interests, which makes that we can talk freely. It even allows us to look into the future a bit, and with good visuals (and a bit of humour) really encourage the audience to deepen their thinking and, hopefully, start acting.
Our audience can know that the experts are fictional. In program booklets or online you are very welcome to mention we are presenting a fictional experts. On stage, we can decide to repeat that, or not. However we decide to stage the expert, after their talk the actors step out of their roles openly and invite the audience for a discussion, as theirselves.
The fictional expert is a concept by Company new heroes.
